Rick Fedrizzi to headline 2012 G4 Gala

MONTGOMERY—The U.S. Green Building Council – Alabama Chapter’s second G4 (Going, Going, Going Green) Gala will be held on August 10 at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center. The keynote speaker this year will be Mr. Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chairman, U.S. Green Building Council.

Rick Fedrizzi co-founded the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 1997, while serving as the sustainability officer at United Technologies subsidiary Carrier Corporation. In 2004 he was named President and CEO of USGBC, and during his distinguished tenure has tripled its membership, broadened its influence, and cemented its role as a leadership voice in the global sustainability movement. In October 2011, he was elected chair of the World Green Building Council, a coalition representing green building councils in 89 countries.

This premier event will showcase the nominees and winners of the chapter’s Clover Awards, a competition recognizing outstanding people, projects, communities, school systems and businesses. A multi-media presentation will highlight this year’s four winners who exemplify the qualities of sustainability, leadership, stewardship and advocacy.

In addition to the awards, those in attendance will have the exclusive opportunity to participate in a silent auction, which features Alabama and Auburn football memorabilia. Some of the items up for auction include framed jerseys and autographed photographs, as well as National Championship memorabilia from the 2011 and 2009 Alabama teams as well as the 2010 Auburn team.

“Proceeds raised at the Gala support our mission to transform our state’s buildings and communities to be sustainable, profitable and healthy,” says USGBC Alabama Executive Director John Roper. “I would also like to thank our many sponsors for making this possible.”

In addition, proceeds from this year’s Gala will help support the Building Green Jobs for Alabama program, a free, five-step training program that provides the fundamentals of green building and sustainability to eligible Alabamians who are unemployed or underemployed and looking to re-enter the regional market.
