2010 Chapter Initiatives
LEED for Homes:
The Committee is closely co-ordinated statewide in order to devise and deliver a realistic and effective residential program in all Branch areas in 2009. Possible elements of the program (to be finalized in 1st Qtr) to be chosen from the listed elements in National's proposal (plus any new ideas from the Committee):
- assist the statewide Residential Advocate in preparing a quarterly market snapshot and status report
- with National's help, work towards a Memo of Understanding (MOU) with the local Home Builders' Association to put on a joint education session or other cooperative effort
- serve as an information resource to home-owners and home-builders
- with Programs Committee, plan a residential event; e.g., LEED-Homes workshop plus…
The ideal size of the Committee, frequency of meetings, and time commitment to be determined by the Statewide Residential Advocate in consultation with the Residential Committee Chairs at the Branch level. The Residential Advocate, a Chapter Board member, reports to the Board and to the Residential Market Program at National.
Commercial Buildings
The Committee is closely co-ordinated statewide in order to devise and deliver a realistic and effective commercial market program in all Branch areas in 2009. Possible elements of the program (to be finalized in 1st Qtr) to be chosen from the listed elements in National's proposal (plus any new ideas from the Committee):
- work with Programs Committee to put on a Green Operations Presentation aimed at property owners and managers
- (could lead to a Property Managers Networking Group and/or Green Operations Summit if there is sufficient interest)
- work with Programs Committee to host a "Broker Power Breakfast", with National's help
- follow-up with a Commercial Brokers Network Group, if interest is great enough
- work with Programs Committee to market an EBOB workshop and perhaps attach special event
The ideal size of the Committee, frequency of meetings, and time commitment to be determined by the Statewide Commercial Advocate in consultation with the Commercial Committee Chairs at the Branch level. The Statewide Commercial Advocate, a Chapter Board member, reports to the Board and to the Commercial Market Program at National.
State Advocacy
The Committee is closely co-ordinated statewide in order to devise and deliver a realistic and effective local and state policy program in Alabama in 2009. Possible elements of the program (to be finalized in 1st Qtr) to be chosen from the listed elements in National's proposal (plus any new ideas from the Committee):
- communicate with State legislators; e.g., to encourage a Green Schools Caucus in the state
- educate decision-makers on other important issues in Alabama
- encourage Mayors' to sign up for Green Schools Alliance (see below) and provide information and expertise
The ideal size of the Committee, frequency of meetings, and time commitment to be determined by the Statewide Policy Advocate in consultation with the Residential Committee Chairs at the Branch level. The Statewide Policy Advocate, a Chapter Board member, reports to the Board and to the State and Local Advocacy Program at National.
